CCD Barcode Readers
Introduction of Barcode Reader
Barcode is a simple method of encoding text information that is easily read by electronic reader. Barcodes are like printed version of the Morse code where different bar and space patterns are used to represent different characters. Barcode reader decodes a barcode by scanning a light source across the barcode and measures the intensity of light reflected back by the white spaces. The pattern of reflected light is detected with a photodiode which produces an electronic signal that matches the printer barcode pattern. This signal is decoded back to the original data by electronic circuits. The main basic structure of a barcode consists of a leading and trailing quiet zone, a start pattern, certain data characters and stop pattern. There are different types of barcode readers such as Pen type readers, Lazer scanners, 2D imaging scanner known as Camera based readers, CCD readers etc.
CCD Barcode Readers
CCD (Charged Coupled Device) scanner known as handheld scanner is referred as a LED scanner. It works by illuminating visible red LED's light onto a barcode and the CCD lens then captures reflection and sends it to the photo sensor. CCD barcode scanner works very well on the small barcode labels. The important difference between CCD reader and the other readers is that the CCD reader measures emitted ambient light from the barcode where as other readers measure reflected light of a specific frequency originating from the scanner itself. The Datalogic Touch 65 and the Datalogic Touch 90, ScanHero8060, CCD-8000/8050, CC-D80, CCD-7000, CCD-1100, TS-2000, TS-4600 and TS-4500 are some of the CCD type of Scanners. The new technology related to CCD is FFO (Fixed Focus Optics); this technology utilizes the same principles as the CCD technology however the FFO scanners are non contract readers. This FFO reader can digitize a barcode from a distance of up to 20 inches from the label depending upon the resolution of the barcode. Key Features of the CCD Barcode Reader CCD Barcode Reader has many features in it such as it is the most cost effective of its kind and has an outstanding high performance sensor. It's long range of scan width varies from the different models like ScanHero 8060 has around 80mm long range of scan width and it operates on a 660nm visible red LED array. Its configuration can be easily done by scanning barcode labels listed in the user documentation.
