Handheld Barcode Readers

Barcodes are defined as the small images of vertical bars and spaces between the bars that are usually fixed on the retail store items, identification cards, on books in Library while issuing and receiving the books, in tickets and postal mail etc.A bar code comprises of five parts namely a quiet zone, a start character, data character, a stop character and the last one is the quiet zone. These codes are read by the barcode readers. These barcode readers have laser beams which are responsive to the reflections on the line, Bars and space thickness. The working of the Barcode readers usually transform the reflected light into the digital data. These digital data that are usually in the binary format are transferred in to the computer for storage and then the required output in a numerical format. The different types of Barcode readers are pen type readers, laser scanners and camera based readers. Different barcodes uses different technology for reading and decoding. The inventor of the first Barcode system was designed and developed by Joe Woodland which is known as the European Article Numbering System.

Description about Handheld Barcode Reader

There are different shapes of handheld barcode reader and one of them is the cat shaped handheld barcode reader.A hand held barcode label reader has a read window and there are two types of axis namely the x axis and the y axis. The read window which has the longer dimension is parallel to x axis and the lens system has the optical axis Y significantly normal to the window at its center which projects a collaborated image of a read line of the label on to the CCD type strip which is scanned one after the other to form a signal which symbolizes the barcode copied on the label. The handheld barcodes are used in the libraries, shopping malls etc.

Conclusion

Handheld barcode readers are the ones which are operated manually. The barcode reader is attached to the computer for reading the information about the products on the barcodes printed on the products. The barcode reader comprises of the parts which include light source, a lense, and a photo conductor device. The barcode readers have a decoder circuitry analyzer. The handheld barcode readers are joined to the computers by using a PS/2 keyboard port.
