INTRODUCTION OF BARCODE READERS
Barcode provide a simple and inexpensive method of encoding text information that is easily read by the electronic readers. Barcode allows data to be collected rapidly and with extreme accuracy. A barcode consists of a series of parallel, adjacent bars and spaces. Barcode Reader is a devise which provides a quick and efficient way to transfer encoded information into an application. Encoded data can be a barcode or a magnetic stripe. It uses a light Emitting Diode (LED) and a Photo detector to scan barcodes. The light generated from the LED falls on the barcode and is absorbed by the printer bars and reflected by the white spaces. The Photo detector senses the reflected light and electro-optically converts the reflected light into a signal. The digitized signal is then sent to a decoder and converted into ASII characters. Pen type scanner, CCD type scanner, 2D camera based scanner and Laser type scanner are some of the various types of scanners available in this category.
LASER BARCODE READERS
Laser scanners project a beam of energy off an oscillating mirror or rotating prism and generate what appears to be red scan line. An omni directional projection scanner creates a pattern of red scan lines. Actually the scan line is a laser spot rapidly moving across at 30 to 40 times per second. Laser scanning is Automatic in a sense that it generates multiple scans activated either by sensing an object that is placed in front of the scanner or by simply pulling a trigger. Fuzzy Logic is one of the latest technologies regarding Laser scanning. This Fuzzy Logic technology applies artificial intelligence to reading poorly printed bar codes and is ideal for low contrast, high density barcodes. Fuzzy Logic offers the highest level of performance and best first time read rate across a range of barcode qualities including harsh environment conditions. ADVANTAGES OF LASER READER Laser Scanner works very well under strong illuminating conditions, scanning performance will not reduce much even during the outdoor operations. Laser Scanners are capable of reading wide Barcode Labels. Laser Scanner engine consumes much lesser power than any other Scanner so it is ideal to use for the portable devise integrating applications. Laser Scanner's scan range is generally longer than other Scanners. Some Laser Scanners are able to read a piece of Barcode label from more than 6 meters away.
