Introduction of Barcode Readers

Barcode is a label with a thin black lines across it, along with a variation of different numbers. Barcode is used to read data and information based upon the widths of the small black lines. Barcode reader is a devise which decodes a barcode by scanning a light source across the barcode and measures the intensity of the light reflected back by the white spaces. The reflected light is detected with a photodiode which produces an electronic signal that matches the printer barcode pattern. This signal is decoded back to the original data by electronic circuits. There are different types of Barcode Scanners such as the LED type, Laser type, Imager and the 2D. Each one scans the barcode in different way depending upon their specification. Barcode Scanners can come in several different forms and it depends on the nature of the particular usage. The most commonly used scanner is the Handheld scanner which is used in checkout lines.

Pen Barcode Reader

Pen Barcode reader is a smaller in size which resembles a ballpoint pen; these must be pointed and swiped physically across the barcode to get accurate reading. To read a barcode using the Pen Barcode reader the pen is dragged across all the bars in a steady even motion. The photo diode measures the intensity of the light reflected back from the light source and generates a waveform that is used to measure the widths of the bars and spaces in the barcode. Dark bars in the barcode absorb light and white spaces reflect light so that voltage waveform generate by the photodiode. These wave form is decoded by the scanner in a manner similar to the way Morse code dots and dashes are decoded. These Pen Barcode readers are more time efficient and they do work well.
