PSC Barcode Reader
Overview
A barcode reader or barcode scanner is a computer peripheral device for scanning and reading the barcodes. It is constituted of a light source, a lens and a photo conductor. The task of photoconductor is to convert optical impulses into electrical ones. In addition to this, there is a decoder unit to analyze the barcode's image provided by the photoconductor. This data is then sent to the scanner's output unit. The various types of barcode readers are Pen type, Laser scanners, CCD readers, Camera based readers, Handheld scanners, Pen scanners, Stationery scanners, Fixed position scanners and PDA scanners.
PSC barcode reader
It is an input device manufactured by PSC that provides a quick and efficient way to transfer encoded data from the barcode printed on a commodity into an application. This transferred data comprises of information in form of a barcode, magnetic stripe or fingerprint. The basic principle of working is the use of a light emitting diode and a photo-detector to scan the barcodes. The light generated from the LED falls on the barcode which in turn is absorbed by the printed bars and reflected by the white spaces. Theses reflected rays are sensed by the photo-detector and converted into an electric signal. This signal is then advanced to a decoder and converted into ASCII characters. Certain programming techniques are also being used to configure properties like improved trigger modes, backward compatibility and fast paced scanning.
